Bulk Red Raspberry Seed Powder

Berry Beautiful manufactures red raspberry seed powder in Washington from Pacific Northwest seed recovered from the berry-processing stream. We dry and clean the seed, mechanically press it to recover raspberry seed oil, test the remaining seed material, and mill and package it for food, pet food, animal nutrition, nutraceutical, and select personal care projects.

This single-ingredient powder is produced entirely from red raspberry seed, without additives, solvents, enzymes, preservatives, flow agents, or chemical processing aids. Conventional and Certified Organic options may be available depending on crop, lot, certification, and current production status.

Ingredient Snapshot

  • Ingredient: Red raspberry seed powder/fiber
  • Botanical name: Rubus idaeus
  • Process: Dried and cleaned seed is mechanically pressed for oil; the remaining seed material is milled, screened, tested, and packaged
  • Manufacturing location: Washington State, USA
  • Composition: Fiber-rich raspberry seed matrix with residual seed lipids and naturally occurring raspberry polyphenol chemistry
  • Available grades: Conventional and Certified Organic, subject to availability

Current Specification and Historical Released Results

A specification defines the limits a lot must meet for release, but it does not always show how the ingredient has performed in routine production. Because Berry Beautiful manufactures and tests this powder, we can also provide historical released ranges. These ranges give formulators and quality teams a clearer view of actual production performance while preserving the lot-specific Certificate of Analysis as the controlling document.

The historical ranges below include released or representative production results only. They are provided for reference, are not guaranteed ranges, and do not replace the current specification or lot-specific Certificate of Analysis. Out-of-release and non-released results are excluded.

Chemical and Physical Summary

Parameter Historical Released Range Current Specification Limit
Moisture 4.19% to 7.64% Maximum 10.0%
Protein 8.22% to 10.8% Minimum 7.0%
Crude fat 4.88% to 6.0% Maximum 10.0%
Crude fiber 43.3% to 50.03% Minimum 40.0%
Ash 1.8% to 2.33% Maximum 5.0%

Chemical and physical results are reported as received.

Microbiological Summary

Parameter Historical Released Range Current Specification Limit
Aerobic plate count <10 to 300 cfu/g Maximum 25,000 cfu/g
E. coli Negative / not detected Negative / <10 cfu/g
Salmonella spp. Negative in 25 g Negative in 25 g
Yeast 10 to 120 cfu/g Maximum 2,500 cfu/g
Mold 20 to 450 cfu/g Maximum 2,500 cfu/g

Laboratory reporting language for E. coli may vary by method. Historical microbiological ranges include released or representative production results only.

Fine-milled material is typically specified at a minimum of 80% through a US No. 20 mesh screen. Certified Organic and alternative-format specifications are supplied according to the applicable product and lot.

Additional Historical Composition Data

Berry Beautiful also maintains product-specific historical analyses beyond the routine release specification. These results provide useful formulation context and can help buyers identify which measurements may be appropriate for future lot testing or finished-product development.

  • Total dietary fiber: Historical testing measured approximately 70% total dietary fiber as received using a modified AOAC 991.43 method. Total dietary fiber and crude fiber are different analytical measurements and should not be compared as if they were the same test.
  • Residual lipid fatty-acid profile: A laboratory extracted the oil remaining in finished red raspberry seed powder and found approximately 33.3% alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), 52.1% linoleic acid, and 10.4% oleic acid within that extracted residual-lipid fraction. These percentages describe the fatty-acid makeup of the residual lipid, not percentages of the powder as a whole.
  • Ellagic-acid-related chemistry: Historical powder testing measured approximately 0.85 mg/g free ellagic acid and 18.4 mg/g total ellagic acid after acid methanolysis. The total result reflects ellagic acid released from hydrolyzable compounds during the test; it is not a direct measurement of intact ellagitannins.

These historical analyses are not current content guarantees. Product claims, nutrient calculations, and finished-formula decisions should be based on the applicable current specification, lot-specific Certificate of Analysis, and any additional testing required for the intended use.

Applications for Evaluation

Pet Food and Animal Nutrition

Red raspberry seed powder gives R&D teams a traceable seed-derived ingredient to evaluate in pet foods, treats, toppers, supplements, and related animal-nutrition formats. Its technical story begins with documented seed fiber, a modest residual lipid fraction, and the chemistry naturally associated with raspberry seed.

Food, Functional Nutrition, and Nutraceutical Projects

The fine-milled powder can be evaluated for dry blends, baked products, smoothie and beverage mixes, nutrition products, and other formulations where a single-ingredient berry seed powder is appropriate.

Personal Care

Powder and coarser formats may also be evaluated as biodegradable plant-based exfoliating materials in scrubs, soaps, and related rinse-off products.

Suitability, inclusion rate, finished-product performance, labeling, and regulatory compliance should be assessed by the buyer for the intended application and market.

Formats and Bulk Packaging

  • Fine-milled powder: Typically packaged in approximately 250 lb lined drums or approximately 1,400 lb Type B FIBC bulk bags
  • Coarse powder, seed cake, or crumble: May be available in 50 lb sacks, lined drums, or FIBC bulk bags depending on the lot and project
  • Samples: Available for qualified formulation and sourcing projects

Availability depends on crop year, inventory, certification status, production scheduling, format, packaging, and testing requirements.

Documentation Available

Documentation for qualified B2B buyers may include:

  • Current product specification or Technical Data Sheet
  • Lot-specific Certificate of Analysis
  • Safety Data Sheet
  • Allergen and GMO statements
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Organic certificate, when applicable
  • Residual-solvent statement
  • Manufacturing-flow, supplier, or food-safety overview documents

Traceable Northwest Process

Berry Beautiful sources Pacific Northwest red raspberry seed through Northwest Berry Co-op in Everson, Washington. Our team dries, cleans, mechanically presses, tests, mills, and packages the material at our Washington facilities. Because we make the ingredient ourselves, buyers can speak directly with the people responsible for the process and documentation.

Using the seed remaining from regional berry processing creates an additional ingredient from an existing agricultural stream. Mechanical pressing also produces red raspberry seed oil before the remaining seed material is milled into powder or fiber.
